Legends of the Sierra Nevada

(The snow-covered, saw-toothed mountain range)

This map above can be found here.

Welcome to Legends of the Sierra Nevada. The purpose of this website is to share some of the myths and legends of the Sierra Nevada.  The Sierra Nevada Mountain Range covers much of California, and does not actually enter Nevada, but rather separates the two states.  The name is correctly pronounced Sierra Nevada, not the Sierras or Sierra Nevadas or Sierra Nevada Mountains. The words mean saw-toothed (Sierra) and snow-covered (Nevada), and the massive area is filled with folklore dating back to the Native American populations who first inhabited the area.

Of course, these are not all of the myths and legends, but we are continually, adding, verifying and researching as time allows.
