Return to Table of Contents Ahwahnee Hotel From the distance, a person might be under the illusion that the Ahwahnee Hotel is carved out of a mountainside in Yosemite The Ahwahnee brings some credence to the theories of ghost hunters. Skeptics and non-believers have been turned or at least admit that there is a rocking chair in the parlor that will rock periodically without reason or explanation. Additionally, the specter of former caretaker Mary Curry Tressider has been frequently seen patrolling the sixth floor, still checking on guests. The Ahwahnee began operation as a hotel in 1927 and continues to operate today. Like many of the areas of the Sierra Nevada, the community surrounding the hotel was heavily influenced by the Miwok Indians. |
