Murderer's Bar

As the legend goes, a group of gold miners were killed just outside of Coloma, California, during the Mother Lode era of the Gold Rush.

A group of miners met a foul and gruesome end at what became known as Murderer's Bar because of the incident.  When discovered, there were a few signs of a scuffle as the hair of one of the miners was found on the ground, but the most grisly discover was that of a burned out pile of ashes with the bone remains of the prospectors.

There were multiple claims that Indians committed the crime, while others said it was competing miners.  Either way, it resulted in another conflict, where at least two more people were killed, but who they were is also unknown -- were these Indians or prospectors?

Rumors and speculation have lingered for 150 years.

Murderer's Bar is an area that is visited today for white water rafting (pictured right) and campers often claim sightings of miners and Indians both, who appear to be searching for something.  There are also many reports of moans and screams and other sounds that don't fit in with the natural surroundings.
